DECEMBER 2006 PRAYER LETTERDecember 16, 2006 Dear Friends and Family, Elisabeth and I have just returned from India . It was a wonderful blessing to see the Lord work in and through us, and our team, while we were there for 18 days. We traveled with a team of men which included Rev. Jim Starr from Vision 20/20 Asia , Evangelist Tom Farrell, Evangelist Lin Croxton, and Pastor Bill Egerdahl. We held meetings in three different states. First we went to Nagaland in the northeast corner of India , then to Bhadravathi in Karnataka state, and finally to Gangtok , Sikkim , just east of Nepal . Seminars for pastors and lay leaders were held in the daytime and evangelistic meetings were held in the evenings. Elisabeth had the opportunity to play her violin and to speak several times to ladies, young people, and children's groups. Dr. Tom Farrell did most of the evangelistic preaching. There were over 400 recorded professions of faith made public in the meetings. Praise the Lord. One evening after the service was finished I stopped a young man and asked about his soul. His name was Samuel and he is the son of a pastor. He admitted to not being saved and was not ready to be saved yet. I asked him to look for me the following night as well. The next evening, after almost everyone had left the stadium, Samuel approached me. I talked more with him and he said he was now ready to be saved. I was able to lead him to Christ. In one session after I preached on the need for laborers among the deaf an invitation was given and the hotel cook showed interest in being saved. Someone led him to Christ. Elisabeth was able to see approximately 30 children make professions of faith in Christ also. What a blessing this was. She also had some challenging sessions with the ladies and college girls. Many were blessed and grew in their relationship with the Lord. The main reason for our participation in this trip was to challenge the Indian pastors with the need to reach the deaf in their country. I had asked the Lord for four full-time men to surrender to this need. God answered my prayer with a total of 21 men showing interest and a burden for the deaf of their regions! Praise the Lord! Some of these men are in full time service already while others are still in college. I have already received an email from one of the pastors saying he is attempting to learn the Indian Sign Language. (I, too, learned a little of the Indian Sign Language while I was in India .) Plans have already been laid for a 5 day seminar in Hyderabad in April of 2007. SWMI is planning on hosting about 30 Indian men and training them in the areas of deaf ministries. These men will come from 4-6 different states of India . The need to train these men is vital to reaching the deaf of India . I believe that there are at least 3 million deaf in India that need to know about our Lord and His salvation. I plan on taking materials for these men to be used in the teaching of the deaf in their areas. The expenses for this trip and the conference will be about four thousand dollars. Please be in prayer about this important conference. Let me end by sharing a testimony from a deaf man I met in India . His name is Umesh Grover. Umesh testified to growing up in a Hindu home. His father would take him to the Hindu temple for worship. However, when trying to ask questions Umesh was constantly told to be quiet and leave his father alone. Even at home he could get no answers about the Hindu beliefs. He lived in misery and was very lonely and hungry for truth. God brought another deaf man to the USA where this deaf man was saved. Upon returning to India he witnessed to Umesh about Christ and soon Umesh was saved. Umesh has never been part of a local church but today has weekly meetings for prayer and Bible study with about 100 deaf adults. He has asked for help. I was burdened as I saw this man take the initiative to begin a "fellowship" for the deaf when he does not even really know what a church is about. I did teach him some basic Bible doctrine while I was with him for 3 days. Umesh needs grounded in the Word of God. Others need to be trained in deaf ministries. Would you, please, be in prayer for these needs in India ! Pray, too, for us at SWMI as we seek to reach the deaf around the world for Christ. Missionaries to the deaf are needed urgently. Where are the workers? If you don't go, who will? In Christ for Precious Deaf Souls Worldwide, David Bennett Director SWMI Psalm 2:8
